Job Details: Lead Designer

This position must communicate the vision and expectations in the design of games at the interface, content and engineering levels to other leads and the designers.

Responsibilities:

  • Leads design team to define the creative vision, technical specifications, fun factor and product content.
  • Participates in regular interaction with producers and software engineers to ensure that the concepts and content of assigned games meet design requirements.
  • Establishes, maintains and enhances relationships with internal and external creative resources.
  • Assists producer, project manager, and scrum leader with design time information so they can develop schedules and production plans.
  • In conjunction with Producer, recognizes milestones, schedules resources, and drives team toward achieving targeted milestone completion for project.
  • Apply both creativity and a critical/analytical understanding of the psychology of video gaming to design game systems that elegantly and effectively meet the goals specified in the project vision.
  • Establishes design schedules and creates working design documents.
  • Sets goals and objectives for individual team members and acts as visionary, mentor and coach.

Requirements:

  • 6 years of game experience on two shipped titles.
  • Completed at least one shipped title (from conception to release) as lead designer.
  • Deep understanding of and/or experience with design principles, level scripting and AI behavior scripting.
  • Ability to collaborate with all Leads (art, tech, sound, production) and design team to achieve solutions that work for all disciplines.
  • Ability to critically evaluate existing and competing products from a design and gameplay perspective.
  • Effective interpersonal, oral and written communication skills
  • Effective time management/organizational skills
